La Carreta Mexican Cuisine

Even after going for many years, this place is still absolutely the best and is still a favorite of my family and I. I grew up in St. Charles, but moved about a half hour away but whenever I am back, even 7+ years later it is some of the best Mexican around. My family and I placed a to go order with 3 meals, and it was done after 15 minutes and ready to be picked up. We ordered fajitas, burritos, tacos, and flautas and everything was so fresh, flavorful, and delicious as always!! They also have great cheese dip and chimichangas as well. The atmosphere is casual and cozy.

What a surprise to see the bright, fresh decor in this repurposed restaurant space! For many years, it was home to an Italian joint...good food, but with a muted ambiance. Carreta's did more than overhaul the cuisine. The entire space has been transformed, with an inviting airy look that heightens your expectations for the meal ahead. And the menu did not disappoint. Many Tex-Mex favorites are available, along with some inventive entrees. All in all, this place is a cut above most Mexican restaurants. Definitely worth the trip!

We normally eat Mexican about once a week. We have our tried and true favorites, but do enjoy exploring other establishments too to compare the offerings. The salsa is always the first thing I notice different. La Carreta joins a growing list of St. Charles County south of the border fare with typical favorites such as fajitas, tacos, burritos and Coca-Cola. Enjoy!

The food is always appetizing here, and portions generous, but the service is usually the outstanding element. Staff typically seem truly appreciative of customers and accommodate needs and wishes. On a recent Monday at lunch La Carreta was as full as a weekend dinner meal at other places.

I came here with family recently and it wasn't as good as the last time I have been here. I got a lime margarita on the rocks and it tasted off. There was a very bitter aftertaste. The waiter seemed hesitant to make me another one when I asked for a new one so I got a strawberry one for the second one. The strawberry margarita did not have the bitter aftertaste and was very sweet. The food came out fast as always and was still good!

Our family favorite Mexican restaurant. Servers and owners always nice and friendly. Tonight i ordered Pollo Chipotle and a frozen pina colada margarita. Roasted veggies had great flavor along with the rice and chicken. it comes with tortillas but i generally skip those after I've probably eaten about a basket worth of chips!

Good place to go for Mexican food. There was a line when we arrived. However, it moved very quickly. Don't let the line turn you away. This was my first visit and it didn't disappoint. The free chips and salsa was above average. The homemade chips were warm and the salsa flavorful. This restaurant is big on tequila shots. They have many different types of tequila to choose from. While you are waiting in line, you can see all the bottles along the wall. They even have a tequila club. A picture of the customer who took the most tequila shots is hanging in the restaurant. The food was good. The service was good too, despite being really busy. We had a large group and they were very attentive. I would definitely consider going back to this location. It's in a strip mall, and was not on my radar. I'm glad it was recommended. It's worth giving a try.
